Congratulations NENIC member Patti Dykes!
Patricia C. Dykes, DNSc., MA, RN received the Nursing Informatics Leadership Award, which is presented to one individual who, in the judgment of the HIMSS Board of Directors, has demonstrated significant leadership in the area of nursing informatics within the Society and the industry. Dr. Dykes is Senior Nurse Informatician with the Clinical Informatics Research & Development group at Partners HealthCare where she works as consultant for acute care documentation and conducts informatics & patient safety research.
She greatly contributed to the formation of the HIMSS nursing informatics community with the establishment of the Nursing Informatics Task Force in 2004. She served as chairperson of the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Task Force from 2004-2006 and with the formation of the Nursing Informatics Committee in 2006, served as the first chairperson (2006-2007).
She has led several HIMSS nursing informatics initiatives and served in several collaborating initiatives on behalf of the HIMSS nursing informatics community. These include serving as a Governing Director of the Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI) from 2005 to 2007 and recently completed serving as co-chair of the nursing track for the AMIA 2007 Spring Congress.
She has also widely presented and published her work on nursing documentation, integration of guideline knowledge into workflow, survey development and is author of several books on interdisciplinary clinical pathways.
“This award recognizes the valuable role nurses’ play in our efforts to improve healthcare through IT,” said Victoria M. Bradley, RN, DNP, FHIMSS, Chief Nursing Informatics Officer for Eclipsys Corporation, and recipient of the first Nursing Informatics Leadership Award in 2004. “I’m delighted that she has received this much- deserved honor. Patti epitomizes the position of the dedicated expert nurse informaticist. She leads, mentors and motivates, which has led to new discoveries in the field of nursing informatics.”
